Up late night in anticipation of FIFA 2014 World Cup final, checking out Zidane, Ronaldo (the original), Ronaldinho , etc. videos. Interestingly, I was most impressed by Diego Maradona clips. That guy was a beast, especially when you consider the time when he was doing his thing.
As good as Messi is, he is very protected from players unlike Maradona was. Defenders nowadays are afraid to tackle because of the ridiculous laws of the game, which gives attacking players a huge edge, Maradona didn't have that privilege...defenders were allowed to treat him roughly and get away with it. Add to that, the condition of the pitches weren't very good much of the time, unlike Messi, who plays on pitches like snooker tables. If Maradona was playing nowadays, he would be better than Messi.
